On Sunday, May 24, 2026, Baobab Southern Kitchen will host a demonstration supper in Portland for one evening at the Redd on Salmon Street. Baobab is a Willamette Valley startup rooted in the culinary traditions of the African diaspora. Gullah Geechee foodways, Gulf Coast soul, and the deep pantry of the American South, cooked with Pacific Northwest ingredients. Chef Kamal grew up in Houston in the 1980s and ’90s, trained and worked as a Reproductive Biologist, and spent the last decade developing a culinary practice based on one core idea: ingredients carry memory. This is a demonstration dinner. Then you’ll eat dinner.
