About the event:
As part of Travel Portland’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within our destination, we are offering an opportunity to take part in a racial equity training workshop. Anyone affiliated with a business that services tourists, meetings and conventions is encouraged to attend, including owners, managers and front-line employees.
Scott Winn, a nationally known racial equity consultant, will present his workshop “Leading with a Racial Equity Approach for Structural Transformation”. During this three-hour training, Scott will lead a presentation with exercises and discussions to strengthen the participants’ knowledge of key concepts and strategies to achieve equity. The training will explore how leading with a racial equity approach is an essential component of a strategy for structural transformation to create equity for all communities.
At the workshop, attendees will:
- examine their own positions of advantage and disadvantage, how these impact their lived experiences (and those of communities they serve) and the importance of an intersectionality lens;
- explore differing ways to relate to differences, comparing colorblindness, diversity, culture competency and anti-oppression/equity approaches;
- distinguish the difference between transactional and transformational approaches to create equity for all; and
- investigate differing roles for individuals to enact to achieve equity.
