Meet the Farm to Early Care and Education Advisory Committee

MINA SMITH

Mina is a Senior Manager at Early Learning Multnomah Hub with United Way, Columbia Willamette. Her work with early learning involves strategically investing a state fund in her community to remove the racial disparity in early childhood. Mina is also a member of the Farm to Early Care and Education Advisory Committee.

“

Food has always been one of my focuses. As the education funds get cut year after year, the food the children eat becomes less nutritious and less diverse. That was my major concern.

I think that’s a challenge—to ask old white men to vacate their seats and give others the opportunity to take that spot.

What drew you to work in early childhood care and education?

Creating the tables like what we are doing here are very, very important starting points.

“

Children’s laughter always energizes me. Occasionally, I get to visit preschools that we invest in. The children just get excited, laughing with no care of the world. And I cherish that. It inspires me to work hard to preserve that.

Thank you to Mina Smith for sharing her time and wisdom as a member of the Farm to Early Childhood Education Advisory Committee.
