Meyer Memorial Trust took the exciting step of investing $1 million of its endowment in one of EFM’s forest funds. The funds are for-profit ecosystem investment vehicle that manages Northwest forestland to enhance forest health and productivity while creating reliable jobs and opportunities for local communities.
From the Meyer Memorial Trust’s blog:
This month Meyer Memorial Trust entered a new phase in Mission Related Investing. At our September meeting, our trustees approved two new market rate investments using our new Invest Oregon program guidelines. We are proud to announce that we will be investing equity into the Portland Seed Fund’s second fund and Ecotrust Forest Management’s Forest Fund II. These investments are exciting to us as they represent market rate investment opportunities that hit our “bullseye” for mission related investing. These investments are also important because they are direct investments from our corpus rather than our grant funds. With these investments we intend to broaden our impact in and around Oregon without putting our grantmaking dollars at undue risk.
“We are thrilled by the foundation’s decision to invest Ecotrust Forests II, and by the obvious alignment of our fund’s goals with foundation’s mission,” says Bettina von Hagen, CEO of Ecotrust Forest Management.
