Ecotrust Forest Management named B Corp Best for the World for third year running
Release Date: 04-14-2015

PORTLAND, Oregon – For the third year in a row, Ecotrust Forest Management has been listed as a ‘B Corp Best for the World’ by the nonprofit B Lab. Honorees in the Best for the World list score in the top 10% of the B Impact Assessment, a rigorous and comprehensive assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, community, and the environment. This year, Ecotrust Forest Management was included in three categories and joins a select group of 119 companies world-wide that have achieved this level of recognition for their business practices.

Ecotrust Forest Management is an Ecotrust subsidiary that manages more than 30,000 acres of Northwest forestland on behalf of investors and forestland owners to enhance forest health and productivity, and to produce a diverse array of forest products and services including timber, biomass, carbon, and improved habitat and water quality.

“This year has already been very exciting for us,” says Bettina von Hagen, CEO of Ecotrust Forest Management. “We’ve closed our second fund, which allows us to acquire additional forestland and transition it to ecological management practices, and we’ve generated forest carbon credits for the market – a first for the region. We’ve been honored to be recognized by B Lab for three years running and deeply appreciate that the kind of management we’re working toward in our forests – one that can be financially competitive, while at the same time beneficial to the health and resilience of ecosystems and rural communities – is being recognized at an international level.”

Today, there are more than 1,200 Certified B Corporations from more than 120 industries ranging from waste management to investment advising, health care and architecture and design. Ecotrust Forest Management is one of only three companies listed as overall Best for the World in the ‘Agriculture and Forest Management’ category and one of only three based in Oregon.

“Today’s honorees inspire all companies to compete not only to be best in the world, but best for the world.  We hope many will take the first step by using the B Impact Assessment to measure and manage their impact with as much rigor as their profit,” said Jay Coen Gilbert, Co-Founder of B Lab, the nonprofit organization that certifies B Corporations and governs the independent third party standard used to generate the corporate impact assessment.
