Ecotrust is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information collected from our donors, community partners, clients, employees, and other constituents. We value your trust and want to be transparent and accountable in how we treat the information that you share with us.
Ecotrust gathers and uses personal information. Anyone from whom we collect such information should expect that it will be carefully protected and that any use of or other dealing with this information is subject to consent. We have created this privacy policy to explain why we collect particular information and how we will protect your personal privacy within our website.
In order to fully understand your rights, we encourage you to read this privacy policy. Ecotrust reserves the right to change our privacy policy. If we make changes, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the homepage, and other places we deem appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
If, however, we are going to use users’ personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection, we will notify users via email and/or by posting a notice on our website for 30 days.

Our website contains electronic donation forms, partner sign-up forms, and email newsletter sign-up forms, where you may choose to give us your information. Our donation forms require users to give us contact information that may include name, address, email address, credit card information, and telephone number. Our partner sign-up forms and email newsletter sign-ups require users to give us contact information as well, including name and email address.
Tax laws require Ecotrust to keep the contact information and contribution level of donors on file. However, we do not store sensitive information from our donors, such as credit card numbers.
Ecotrust will never sell, trade, rent, or share names, e-mail / mail addresses, or telephone numbers without the explicit permission of that person. We will use contact information (e-mail, telephone number and address) for these purposes only:
We allow donors the option to have their name publicly associated with their donation unless the donor explicitly chooses the “anonymous” field when donating. In all other cases the default is for staff and volunteers to assume the names of donors may be publicly announced in Ecotrust’s Annual Report publication, unless the donor explicitly indicates otherwise.
All access to donor financial information is strictly limited to the professional staff that needs to process this data. No such data is given to any person, organization, or group who does not have a professional need to access this data. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary.
The website uses a minimal build of Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States and allows us to notice trends to improve the user experience on our website. This minimal build processes personal data such as: the unique User ID set by Google Analytics, the date and time, the title of the page being viewed, the URL of the page being viewed, the URL of the page that was viewed prior to the current page, the screen resolution, the time in local timezone, the files that were clicked on and downloaded, the links clicked on to an outside domain, the type of device, and the country, region, and city.
You may opt out of this tracking at any time by activating the “Do Not Track” setting in your browser.
Ecotrust processes all credit card donations safely and securely through Blackbaud. Blackbaud has validated compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS), and encrypts personal and credit card information during each transaction to ensure your personal information is kept secure.
We collect an IP address from all visitors to our website. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, administer our site, analyze trends, track users’ movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve the site, and deliver customized, personalized content. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
Our site contains links to other websites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another website for which Ecotrust has no responsibility. We encourage you to read the privacy statements on all such sites as their policies may be different than ours.
Our site also contains embedded content (e.g., videos, images, maps, etc.) from other websites. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.
Users who no longer wish to receive our electronic newsletters may opt-out of receiving these communications by following the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each electronic newsletters and following directions to unsubscribe.
